Safety Checks
When it comes to making New Year’s resolutions, personal injury needs to be on your list. Here are five easy things you can do in 2019, and all five can be done in roughly thirty minutes. So, no excuses.
Take your vehicles to an auto mechanic for a checkup. Most of us drive every day. It’s important to make sure your car is in good working condition. Avoid sudden stalls or other vehicle failure by changing the oil regularly and keeping tires properly inflated.
Take fifteen minutes and review your auto insurance coverage and check for two things. First, make sure you have sufficient protection for your assets. Second, review your coverage to make sure you have uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage.
Be a safer driver by activating the Do Not Disturb feature on your phone so that you are not alerted to incoming texts while driving.
You should also check out your business, home and property to flag potential safety hazards. Examples include loose materials like stair railings, carpets, or bricks on walkways, trees that have the potential to lose branches, and plumbing and electrical equipment.
Drive Defensively by: -Pulling into traffic slowly. -Watching for red light runners. -Keeping at least one hand on the steering wheel. -Watching for children playing. -Scan 12 seconds ahead. -Don’t rely solely on mirrors, look backwards when backing out. -Do not tailgate. -Be courteous to other drivers. -Maintain your defensive driving skills by taking a Defensive Driving Course.
The simple addition of safety checks to your resolution list can go a long way in keeping you and your family safe from liability in the coming year.
