Hurricane Irma Emergency Preparedness

As Hurricane Irma draws closer to Florida’s coast, make sure you are prepared for the storm. Meteorologists are calling for widespread power outages, intense winds, flooding, and tons of rain. Irma will most likely be a Category 4 hurricane as it brushes up our coast.

Creating an emergency kit and preparing for the storm is critical. You need enough supplies to last 72 hours. Here are some items you should have:

  1. Non-perishable food

  2. Manual can opener

  3. Water (1 gallon/person/day)

  4. Battery or hand crank radio

  5. Flashlight

  6. Extra batteries

  7. Wrench or pliers

  8. Medication

  9. First aid kit

  10. Whistle

  11. Local maps

  12. Battery/solar phone charger

  13. Pet food, water, & supplies

This storm will do damage. Make sure you take pictures of your home and business prior to the storm. There will be insurance claims that accompany this storm. Be sure your insurance is in good standing and take an inventory of your most important items; include the monetary value of those items.

Stay safe and don’t take any chances!
